Rate of pay depends on qualifications.Job DescriptionJOB SUMMARYThe Security Specialist is responsible for making recommendations regarding the development and implementation of security efforts and technologies that protect employees, board members, contractors and visitors to SAWS facilities. The individual in this position reports to the Director of Security.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Provides recommendations regarding the development, implementation and monitoring of SAWS security plans and programs to avoid/control losses and provide a secure work environment.
- Conducts vulnerability assessments which include physical security inspections/surveys and risk analysis as to reduce risk of loss and to protect employees.
- Prepares investigative and/or incident reports, procedures, and checklists as required.
- Preserves evidence to support post-investigation actions such as employee discipline, criminal or civil proceedings, and arbitration.
- Monitors access control system to ensure positive control of employees, visitors, & contractors, and may operate SAWS Badge Office for identification and parking permits.
- Collaborates and integrates the selection of applicable technical security equipment and devices.
- Establishes and maintains effective internal and external relations with Law Enforcement and/or other agencies to support security objectives.
- Provides recommendations on incident response planning as well as the investigation of security breaches and assists with disciplinary and legal matters associated with such breaches.
- Assists in the planning, organization of employee and contractor security education and awareness training; conducts training and coordinates internal training needs with the Corporate Training Division.
- Provides recommendations on programs, investigations, training, and security processes/ procedures.
- Participates in short- and long- term planning including budget preparation.
- Performs administrative tasks and other duties as assigned.
DECISION MAKING- This position works under limited supervision.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS- Associate’s Degree in Security Management, Criminal Justice, Police Science or related field from an institution accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency.
- Five years’ experience in security operations (i.e., Operations or Physical Security Investigations, Industrial, Information and/or Personnel Security).
- Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
- CPR/First Aid certification or obtain certification within 90 days of appointment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards Peace Officer Certification.
- Experience working with large scale access control systems and other physical security equipment.
- Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards Instructor’s license, Certified Protection Professional, Physical Security Professional and experience with National Incident Management System.
JOB DIMENSIONS- Ability to respond to a hazardous materials emergency.
- Proficient in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
- Proficient in the use of investigative equipment and supplies; use of digital and 35mm cameras and video/audio equipment, binoculars, evidence collection and storage.
- Ability to establish and maintain contact with internal and external customers, contract guard force, local law enforcement, security, emergency personnel, consultants, and vendors.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONSPhysical requirements include lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally. Subject to sitting, standing and walking on a frequent basis and bending, reaching, crawling, squatting, kneeling, stooping, crouching and climbing on an occasional basis to perform job scope. Requires speech and hearing. Working conditions are in an office and field environment. Operates a motor vehicle on a daily basis.
May be required to work hours other than regular daytime schedule such as non-standard shifts and rotating days off, including nights and weekends.
