Summary of position:
Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, the Corrections Officer 2 (Lateral) performs more complex detention duties based on increased experience in a detention facility. Incumbents perform booking, searching, releasing, transportation, supervision and security work for the Sheriff's Office Jail. Employees are expected to handle a variety of potentially volatile and dangerous situations in a calm and competent manner. Employees in this classification are responsible for the operation of the Sheriff's Office Jail on a 24 hour, 7 day a week basis. Work is reviewed by the Corrections Sergeant through observation and evaluation of demonstrated ability to handle a variety of work situations

Kitsap County Sheriff's Office values the wellness of our Corrections staff. We offer a work schedule that consists of 10 hr. 40 minute shifts, which consists of workweeks that are 5 days on/4 days off two weeks in a row, and then 5 days on/5 days off the third week.

Vacation Leave
New employees are credited with 48hours of annual leave upon hire and will be begin accruing at the rate of 8 hours per month starting on their 7th month of employment. Employees may carry over 360 hours from one calendar year to the next. Annual leave accrual will increase upon tenure, as follows:

Upon completion of 3years: 15 daysper year (10.00 hours per month)
Upon completion of 5 years: 20 days per year (13.33 hours per month)
Upon completion of 10 years: 25 days per year (16.67 hours per month)

Sick Leave
All new hires will be credited with 48 hours of sick leave upon hire and will begin accruing at the rate of 8 hours per month starting on their 7th month of employment. Employees may carry over 1200 hours from one calendar year to the next.

Lateral Hires - You will be advanced six months of annual leave and six months of sick leave. At the discretion of KCSO, your prior service time may be recognized for the purposes of granting higher vacation leave accrual rates. Beginning your seventh month of employment, you will start accruing vacation and sick leave. In addition, you may receive one (1) additional week of vacation leave and one (1) additional week of sick leave.
