Annual Salary: $52,077 Location: Landers State Office Building-149 Park Central Square, Springfield, MO
HOW THIS POSITION SUPPORTS THE DEPARTMENT’S VISION : This is a professional public contact work in the Criminal Tax Investigation Bureau of the Missouri Department of Revenue conducting criminal investigations and enforcing motor fuel and tobacco tax laws for the State of Missouri in reviewing claims to identify fraudulent activity, conducting surveillance and inspections, interviewing suspects and witnesses, collecting evidence, preparing detailed reports of investigation findings, and recovering taxes owed to the State of Missouri by initiating collection efforts.
DUTIES PERFORMED TO SUPPORT THE DEPARTMENT’S VISION : • Interpreting and applying motor fuel and tobacco tax laws to ensure compliance with such laws.
• Conduct cigarette inspections at businesses throughout the state of Missouri.
• Obtain the necessary cooperation and information using considerable tact and diplomacy while representing the Department in a professional manner.
• Issue summons to businesses who are in violation of cigarette or tobacco tax laws.
• Issue summons to individuals who are in violation of motor fuel tax laws.
• Prepare and issue subpoenas to obtain records and information to further cases.
• Gather statements from victims, witnesses, suspects, and collecting and evaluating pertinent records, obtaining and preparing evidence and preparing evidence and detailed reports of completed cases.
• Work diligently and accurately to complete all assigned tasks.
• Provide testimony in criminal, civil, or administrative proceedings.
• Ability to travel in the performance of assigned duties and to travel frequently throughout the State of Missouri.

QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with earned credit hours in one or a combination of the following areas: accounting, finances, tax, banking, marketing, economics, criminal justice or closely related field or related area; or experience as an investigator with responsibility for conducting regulatory or tax investigations. Ability to effectively work and communicate with coworkers and attorneys.
