Trades Supervisor (Electrician) - Jones Beach State Park
Description
Duties Description Under the supervision of higher-level personnel, the Trades Supervisor (Electrician) may be engaged in the performance of or coordination of the following activities working from verbal or written descriptions or drawings and sketches:
Duties include but are not limited to:
• Supervises and trains journey-level electricians and other semi-skilled and relatively unskilled subordinate staff assigned.
• Estimates, plans and coordinates new installations and modifications to existing electrical systems and other materials.
• Examines blueprints to determine dimensions, material and labor requirements to accomplish project; order materials and supplies as required by the project.
• Supervises electricians in the performance of their duties; visits job sites to ensure compliance with safety standards.
• Draws rough sketches and prepares plans to accomplish work projects as required; assigns staff to each project providing verbal instructions and blueprints.
• Supervises, directs, and coordinates journey, sub-journey level, and unskilled workers involved in the repair, maintenance and installation of electrical systems and equipment.
• Makes recommendations to supervisor on the need for specific materials needed in the performance of repairs; is responsible for ordering and maintaining the adequate levels of supplies.
• Observes and inspects work while in progress and when completed to ensure that job is done properly, on schedule and according to plan; also, inspects work performed by outside contractors to ensure conformance with project specifications.
• Meets with park managers, contractors, and various trade supervisors involved in projects to coordinate ongoing projects, and schedule work to be performed.
• Operate bucket truck, light trucks and other motor vehicles.
• Prepares written evaluations periodically of the work performed by subordinate staff.
• Supervises set-up and operation of public address system at various functions; supervises installation and maintenance of video surveillance equipment.
• Keeps up to date with the latest trends in the electrical trade, revision to building codes, and the latest safety regulations and applies them as required.
Minimum Qualifications One year of experience as a skilled journey level electrician subsequent to the completion of apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State.
Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
• Must possess a valid Class A* Commercial Driver’s License that allows the candidate to legally operate commercial vehicles in New York State or obtain one within the probationary period and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.***
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Work Schedule will be discussed at the interview. The candidate may be expected to work weekends and various shifts, holidays and special events as required to provide effective operational coverage.
• Must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.
• Must be reliable, flexible, and willing to work in a team setting.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with other staff and park patrons in a responsible and courteous manner.
***Under the provisions of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (1991), this position has been designated Safety Sensitive. The candidate is required to participate in pre-employment, random, and post-accident drug and alcohol testing.
Positions located within Nassau County, are also eligible to receive an additional $4,000 annual downstate adjustment.
