Description Make a meaningful impact in Palo Alto’s Public Works Department by supporting the Public Services division with budgeting, administration, and departmental operations as an innovative and dynamic Management Analyst driven by a passion for service to the community and city staff. About the Position:In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with the Public Works Department (Engineering, Fleet, Trees, Traffic, Facilities, etc.) and City staff at all levels to help build the department's annual budget and assist with in-depth quantitative analysis of departmental operations. This position offers the opportunity to gain insight into the City's most public-facing departments from top to bottom. The most attractive candidates will also be technically savvy and, within a few months, be able to assist department staff with software programs, including SAP and department-specific systems. The ideal candidate will have proficiency in and knowledge the following:- Advanced data compilation and analysis (vlookups, pivots, long-range forecasting, budget uploads, etc.); Knowledge of government finance and/or public administration is a plus. Extensive knowledge required in Excel and PowerPoint
- Budgeting and tracking actual revenues and expenditures
- Demonstrated ability to create strong partnerships through communication and interpersonal skills with various team members and leaders of all levels and functions throughout the organization
- Detail-oriented, organized, and demonstrated an ability to multitask and shift priorities quickly
- Applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations
- Excellent customer service skills and an ability to eff actively communicate and collaborate with a diverse range of people and job functions
- Strong writing skills
- Ability to quickly learn new tools and technologies, including SAP
- Operational knowledge in Fleet, Facilities, Streets, Sidewalks, Storm Drains, Sweeping, Traffic, or Trees preferred.

Essential DutiesEssential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:- Supervise clerical or support staff to include prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations, ensuring staff are trained; and making hiring, termination and disciplinary recommendations.
- Manages special division-level studies and projects, which include: setting up contracts; establishing and monitoring timelines; preparing requests for proposals; selecting consultants; ensuring compliance with applicable regulations, specifications, and/or requirements; monitoring project budgets; tracking projects; preparing related reports; and performing other related duties. May serve as a project lead and provide direction to lower-level staff on assignments.
- Prepares a wide variety of analytical reports on operations and activities in the assigned area of responsibility.
- Reviews City Council Agenda items; ensures background information and supporting materials are available; assists departments in maintaining agenda standards.
- Conducts surveys and performs research and statistical analysis; prepares related reports.
- Assists with budget preparation and administration; assists departments in preparing cost estimates for budget recommendations.
- Performs related duties of a similar nature or level.

here. Minimum QualificationsSufficient education, training and/or work experience to demonstrate possession of the following knowledge and skills, which would typically be acquired through:
Bachelor's degree in a related field and three years of professional experience in public or business administration, public affairs, or a related field;
or
an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job, such as those listed above.
