We are excited to announce a recruitment for the countywide position of Information Systems Technician I. There are currently two (2) vacancies in Contra Costa Health and one (1) position in the Clerk-Recorder's Office; but the eligible list created from this recruitment may also be used to fill future openings in other departments.
The Information Systems Technician I is responsible for installing, configuring, and troubleshooting hardware and software applications and equipment on the network. This will include answering phone calls to support customers with hardware and software issues and providing technical solutions, determining network issues, tracking, following up on the status of issues, and maintaining written documentation on installations and system fixes as needed. The technician must have a valid driver’s license and vehicle to operate and deploy equipment within Contra Costa County. The position may require working on weekends for projects.

What you will typically be responsible for: - Answering phone calls to support customers with computer, peripheral, and other
technical problems - Troubleshooting equipment problems to ensure functional operation; performing minor repairs on computer equipment; and creating new data plugs, replacing cables, and making necessary adjustments
- Opening and actively tracking technical incidents to meet the team's service-level obligations
- Receiving requests for assistance regarding desktop and computer-related problems including hardware, software and peripheral printers, and related equipment and determining the severity of problems and resolving or referring to the appropriate staff or vendor
- Performing a variety of duties in the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of hardware and software applications and equipment related to local or wide area networks
- Attending and participating in professional group meetings and staying informed of new trends and innovations in the field of information systems support and analysis

The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future openings for up to six (6) months.
Minimum Qualifications License Required: Candidate must possess a valid California motor vehicle operator’s license. Out of state valid motor vehicle operator’s license will be accepted during the application process.
Education: Possession of a high school diploma, GED proficiency or high school equivalency certificate supplemented by nine (9) college semester or twelve (12) college quarter units in information systems, computer science or a closely related field.
Experience: One (1) year of full-time experience performing information systems equipment installation duties.
Substitution: One (1) year of additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required coursework in computer science when possessing one of the following current and valid certifications: CompTIA A+, Net+, Server+; Microsoft MCITP Desktop Support.
Selection Process Application Filing and Evaluation: Applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process.
Online Skills Assessment: Candidates who possess the minimum qualifications will be invited to take the online multiple-choice skills assessment. The assessment will measure candidates' competencies that may include but are not limited to Critical Thinking, Professional & Technical Expertise, Attention to Detail, Customer Focus, and Teamwork. The assessment will be administered remotely using a computer. You will need access to a reliable internet connection to take the assessment. It is not recommended to take the assessment using a cell phone. (Weighted 100%).
Tentative Dates : 7/17/2025 - 7/22/2025
Final Selection Interviews: These will be scheduled by the department once the eligible list is established. If you apply for another recruitment that uses this exam and the test is scheduled within 6 months of the date of this test, you will not have the option to re-take the exam. If more than 6 months have passed you will need to retake the exam.
The Human Resources Department may change the examination steps noted above in accordance with the Personnel Management Regulations and accepted selection practices.
