DescriptionUnder general supervision, the Meter Technician will perform maintenance, operations, and field work involved in water distribution, water meters, and recording water consumption for utility service customers.

- Accurately reads water meters on assigned routes, normally at curb and alley locations; accurately records readings on a handheld data device; makes necessary calculations.
- Checks to determine conditions of water meters, reports visible meter defects, leaks, and related problems in the form of a trouble code or service order.
- Checks meters that should be off and ensures service for new accounts; reports any illegal use of water; completes meter disconnects and reconnects as assigned.
- Demonstrates knowledge of geography, street locations, and meter locations within the City.
- Performs installation, maintenance and repairs on water meters, water distribution systems and wastewater collection systems as directed by supervisor.
- Coordinates with utility crews, contractors, and city inspectors, as necessary, for utility projects.
- Interacts courteously and professionally with utility customers and public in the performance of job duties.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: No direct supervision exercised; may exercise occasional administrative and functional supervision for specified activities.
Minimum Qualifications- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- One (1) year of experience in water utility services.
Special Requirements: Obtain a TCEQ Class D Water license within one year of hire.

Basic group life insurance protection is provided to eligible full-time employees in the amount of two times the annual salary as recorded at the beginning of each year.
Voluntary products are also available to full-time employees and include supplemental life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, cancer insurance, and critical care.

Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS)
All employees appointed to positions designated to work 1,000 hours or more per year must participate in the Texas Municipal Retirement System. TMRS is a qualified tax deferred retirement plan under Section 401 of the IRS. Seven percent of gross earnings are deducted each payroll as a pre-tax deduction and deposited into the member account. When an employee becomes vested and retires, the city provides 2-to-1 matching contributions.

Salary:
$38,564.76 - $46,745.16 Annually
