Introduction

The City of Scottsdale is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Network Engineer to support and evolve the City's enterprise network infrastructure. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in complex environments and is excited by the opportunity to work on large-scale network modernization efforts that directly support City operations. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on expertise with Cisco Nexus, Catalyst, and other switching platforms, and will play a key role in ensuring the performance, security, and resilience of our citywide LAN/WAN infrastructure. This is a highly impactful role within a collaborative municipal IT team, offering both stability and the chance to make a visible difference in the community through smart, future-ready networking.

Anticipated starting salary for this position may be up to mid-point depending on candidate’s experience and internal equity. The full salary range is listed above and mid-point for this position is $120,536.00 annually .

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field from an accredited educational institution.
• Five years' network engineering experience.
• An equivalent combination of education and job-related experience that meets the minimum qualifications may be substituted.

Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements

• Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.
• Preferred: Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) certification.
• Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.

Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on department/section assignment.

Essential Functions

Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:

• Troubleshoots and successfully resolves complex network problems to the packet level.
• Works proactively to recognize network problems and minimize customer impact.
• Performs network modeling, analysis and planning.
• Manages and shapes network traffic to resolve complex technical issues using a protocol analyzer to complete diagnostics.
• Manages and coordinates network communications integration projects with city IT staff, outside vendors and departmental business experts.
• Provides ongoing technical support of system and specialized applications, evaluates evolving standards, develops architectural/platform enhancements, conducts capacity planning (i.e. bandwidth) and system documentation.
• Drives to facilities throughout the city on a regular basis to add, troubleshoot, and replace network equipment.
