Department Summary
The Public Works, Facilities & Parks Department (PWFP) serves to plan for the future needs of the County, manage infrastructure and County facilities, and protect natural resources. PWFP is comprised of three Divisions: Public Works, Facilities, and Parks which are responsible for managing and maintaining the County’s infrastructure and open space including Fleet Administration, Records Retention, Mail and Courier services.

The County of Monterey Fleet Administration services and tracks the repair and maintenance actions for over 1,600 pieces of equipment ranging from passenger cars to heavy equipment. Fleet additionally has an automated vehicle rental program (Invers), operates multiple fueling sites, and manages a vehicle replacement program.

Position Summary

The Public Works, Facilities & Parks Department has a vacant Mechanic II position. Under direction, this position performs journey level inspection, diagnosis, servicing, repair and maintenance on a variety of gas, diesel, and alternative fuel vehicles and equipment; operate computerized diagnostic equipment, and performs related duties as required.

The Eligible List established by this recruitment process may be used County-wide to fill current and future vacancies on a regular full-time, part-time, or temporary basis.

This classification is part of a flexible series. Incumbents appointed at the lower level of the career series may be promoted up to the higher level of the career series subject to their meeting the employment standards for the higher class and a recommendation for their promotion by the appointing authority.
