Description

The Position

The City of Riverside is accepting applications for the position of Fire Community Preparedness Instructor to fill one (1) vacancy in the Special Services Division of the Fire Department. The Special Services Division, also known as the City of Riverside's Office of Emergency Management (OEM), administers a comprehensive all-hazards community-based emergency management program. The eligibility list established may be used to fill any upcoming vacancy within this classification for up to six (6) months.

The Fire Community Preparedness Instructor is responsible for performing community preparedness education activities and the City's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program with the Fire Department; to design and administer training curriculum; to train and educate residents with skills to cope with the aftermath of a disaster; and to do related work as required.
This position is grant-funded and therefore contingent on the renewal of the award.

Option I

Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Business or Public Administration, Marketing, Public Relations, Emergency Management, Communications or a related field.

Experience: One year of experience in the coordination and administration of community education activities, preferably related to fire or emergency response programs.

Completion of certification programs or courses from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Incident Command Systems (ICS) is highly desirable.

Option II

Education: An Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Business or Public Administration, Marketing, Public Relations, Emergency Management, Communications or a related field.

Experience: Three years of experience in the coordination and administration of community education activities, preferably related to fire or emergency response programs.

Completion of certification programs or courses from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Incident Command Systems (ICS) is highly desirable.

Selection Process

Possession of an appropriate, valid class "C" California Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
