Description
An island community rich in history and opportunity, Galveston is the ideal place to live, work and raise a family!Job DescriptionSUMMARY: Under general supervision, assisting with servicing automobiles, trucks, tractors, heavy construction equipment and other motorized and mechanical equipment during fueling. Must also provide general maintenance to the assigned fueling sites, involved UST equipment and in addition, have the capability to create and then monitor computerized online city auction sales and other databases.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS : Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Factors such as regular attendance at the job are not routinely listed in job descriptions, but are an essential function. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Service the fuel systems at all City fueling sites.
- Ability to set schedules for afterhours fuel station workers.
- Be available to fill in during shifts that cannot be filled at the fueling station due to emergencies.
- Create and monitor computerized online auction systems.
- Ability to remove Global Positioning Service devices from fleet vehicles.
- Assist with refueling vehicles; checks fluid levels.
- Performs general building and grounds maintenance.
- Supports the relationship between the City of Galveston and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
- Provides assistance to mechanic and other staff as needed.
- Employees may at any time be required to work in order to provide for the safety and well-being of the general public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services, in the event of an emergency.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Knowledge:- City policies and procedures.
- Ability to maintain documentation.
- TCEQ controls and regulations for fuel station operations and Underground Storage Tanks (UST).
- Basic vehicle and equipment maintenance and minor repair practices and procedures.
- Safety procedures and practices.
- City computers and various software applications.
Skill in:- Handling situations requiring diplomacy, fairness, firmness and sound judgment.
- Providing efficient customer service.
- Understanding and applying City policies and procedures.
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with all levels within the City.
- Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:High School diploma or equivalent; AND one year of basic automotive/motorized equipment and minor repair experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION: - Possession of a valid Texas Class C Driver’s License.
- Requires a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) Underground Storage Tanks (UST) Class C License (City of Galveston will provide training and testing to obtain license).
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:Work is performed both in an outdoor and indoor work environment. May be exposed to dangerous machinery, extreme weather conditions and hazardous chemicals. May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
