Definition and Class Characteristics INTERVIEWS WILL BE HELD ON SEPTEMBER 18 & 19, 2025 Do you have a passion for animals and a desire to make a meaningful impact? Nevada County Animal Shelter is seeking a reliable and compassionate Shelter Supervisor to support our operations. In this role, you’ll help ensure the shelter runs smoothly, efficiently, and with the love our animal residents deserve.
This is a hands-on leadership position in a fast-paced, high-volume environment that requires flexibility, compassion, and strong decision-making skills. You’ll play a key role in maintaining daily operations, supporting staff, and ensuring the highest standard of care.
Please note: This position may require weekend shifts and includes on-call responsibilities for the holidays, inclement weather, and emergencies.
Key Responsibilities:- Assist in daily dog care routines, including feeding, bathing, and general wellness checks.
- Help supervise the team members providing leadership, guidance, and conflict resolution when needed.
- Ensure the sanctuary remains a clean, safe, and positive environment for both dogs/cats and staff.
- Monitor and update the daily log spreadsheet and maintain accurate records.
- Support record keeping veterinary care and medical history.
- Oversee inventory of food and supplies, ensuring items are restocked in a timely manner.
- Train and mentor new shift kennel technicians and animal care specialists.
- Step in when needed for on-call duties, including coverage during holidays, extreme weather, or unexpected absences.
Required Skills & Attributes:- Proficiency with basic computer programs and recordkeeping systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong judgment and decision-making abilities in a fast-paced environment.
- Confidence in leading a team and maintaining a calm, supportive presence during high-stress or emotional situations.
- Must be comfortable working in all weather conditions.
