The Missouri Department of Agriculture, Grain Inspection and Warehousing Division has a part-time Grain Technician position in the northwest Missouri area, near Rock Port, MO. Employees in this position are expected to have reliable transportation and communication.

Employees in this position serve a critical front-line role in the foundation of Missouri’s grain market. Employees inspect carriers (such as railcars) prior to loading of grain, obtain grain samples and perform basic technician functions in order to aid in establishing the value of that grain. The work of this position is primarily in the field (at grain loading sites).

Employees in this position are anticipated to work 1-3 days a week through fall harvest, and up to 2 days weekly throughout the rest of the year. Supervisors work with employees on their availability, but schedules must be flexible as work is reliant upon variable railroad transportation.

Schedule:



A “normal day” for employees in this position is that a train is anticipated to arrive at 5:30am. You meet other employees on site at 5am to prepare. The train arrives and starts loading. It may take 10-14 hours depending on the day. Once loading and associated work is complete, your shift is over.

Travel/Mileage:

Employees in this position will be expected to utilize their own vehicle, but some mileage will be reimbursed. The employee’s commute from their residence to work sites near Rock Port, MO is not reimbursable.

After initial training is completed, a normal day for e mployees in this position would be to drive their own vehicle to work at customer locations near Rock Port, MO, where a crew of other Grain Inspection employees from other areas of the state would join them to work a train together. In this instance, no mileage would be reimbursed for employees in this position.

On occasion, this employee would be responsible for transporting grain samples from the local Rock Port-area customers to the office in St. Joseph, MO, or they may have other assigned duties or training in the St. Joseph, MO office. Mileage will be reimbursed (when pre-approved) for trips to the office in St. Joseph, MO.
