Landscape Supervisor
Description
Job SummaryUnder general supervision, supervises and leads in the performance of a variety of landscape functions, tasks and assigned staff members; performs work as required.
Examples of Duties- Supervises, evaluates, and works with a labor crew performing a variety of landscape functions;
- Supervises and participates in the operations of specialized landscaping equipment, and coordinates repair needs of equipment with fleet maintenance;
- Assures proper use and combinations of materials;
- Inspects landscaping work done by contractors or utilities company on rights of way and other properties;
- Supervises removal of cuttings and trimming of trees and shrubs;
- Supervises applications of pesticides and herbicides;
- Selects trees and shrubs for preservation in designated areas, rights of way and other properties;
- Supervises or participates in plantings and maintenance of trees, shrubs, and other plants;
- Supervises and inspects general cleaning and repair operations;
- Takes measurements and computes materials needed for planting projects, and makes appropriate orders for supplies;
- Creates records of materials and equipment used on projects;
- Supervises and participates in installation of posts and fences, edging materials, irrigation, and erosion control materials;
- Creates records of work hours charged to various projects;
- Creates various records and prepares reports as needed;
- Performs related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience: - Associate's degree in landscaping, horticulture, or other related field; and
- Four to six years experience in landscaping, nursery work, or other related field;
or
- A combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of: - All equipment and specialized tools used in park landscape work;
- All phases of landscape field work;
- Seeds, fertilizers, mulches, trees, shrubs, herbicides, and other materials used in landscape work;
- Various methods of erosion control and contract specifications.
Skill in: - Operating and maintaining grounds maintenance equipment.
Ability to: - Use sound judgment and initiative to complete work with a minimum of supervision;
- Supervise and lead the work of a labor landscape crew;
- Make basic mathematical computations;
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with crew members, other department personnel, contractors, and the general public.
Special Requirements- Possession of Pesticide Applicator's license;
- Valid North Carolina CDL required or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Ability to operate large and small tractors and related heavy construction equipment, a wide variety of landscaping equipment, chain saw, sprayers, computer and other assigned equipment.
