Description
Hawthorn Children’s Psychiatric Hospital provides specialized care for children and adolescents diagnosed with mental health disorders. We are looking for a positive and energetic Education Assistant for our Education Team that serves inpatient acute and residential.
This person must have an interest in helping children and adolescents with mental health disorders while supporting classroom teachers in classroom instruction. Your time with the students allows you to see the difference we make in the lives of the children in our care. As an Education Assistant at Hawthorn, you will receive ongoing guidance and training with the ability to collaborate with coworkers and receive support all while providing you the opportunity to flourish in your professional role with the students and the facility.
• This is mid-level technical work assisting a teacher in a classroom setting and involves specific supervised sessions of instruction of students with minimal supervision.
• Assists in the preparation of educational and teaching materials.
• Obtains, prepares, and maintains educational equipment and/or machines as assigned.
• Corrects completed work of students and assigns additional work.
• Prepares behavioral/participation notes and records of achievement
• Compiles reports and other information.
• Maintains inventory of educational materials, supplies, equipment, and library books; obtains replacements as needed.
• Prepares attendance records and checks on tardy or absentee students, if assigned.
• Observes individual students in oral-reading assignments.
• Conducts prepared lessons for individuals or small groups in the presence and/or of the classroom teacher.
• Supervises students using computers and other technical equipment.
• Tutors students in basic skills using methods and materials prescribed.
• Supervises students when the teacher is temporarily absent from the classroom.
• May be assigned to follow educational plans as a substitute teacher for limited periods under close supervision.
60 or more earned credit hours or an Associate degree from an accredited college or university, including six earned credit hours in Teaching Methods, Educational Psychology, Child or Human Development, or in a closely related field. Transcripts must be submitted for review.
OR Two or more years of full time technical experience assisting a professional teacher in a classroom setting; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency. Resume must be submitted for review.
Reports to the Education Program Manager and the Chief of Clinical Services.
