A peer support worker is someone with the lived experience of recovery from a mental health condition, substance use disorder, or both. They provide support to others experiencing similar challenges. You get to help peers grow and recover in a trauma informed setting, while working in a friendly office area, with enthusiasm, kindness, and support.

What you’ll do:

• Assist clients within high and minimum-security settings to get in touch with what they think would improve their quality of life

• Assist clients identify and remove the barriers to achieving their quality of life

• Maintain professional boundaries

• Share appropriate pieces of your personal recovery story

• Model successful recovery behaviors

• Attend treatment team and other meetings to provide support for clients you are serving

• Participate in hospital committees, ensuring the client/peer voice is heard

Minimum Qualifications

• Meet requirements to become a Missouri Certified Peer Specialist

• Demonstrate a significant length of time and progress in personal recovery (mental illness and/or substance use)

Preferred Qualifications

• Currently a Missouri Certified Peer Specialist

• Excellent listening and communication skills

• Lived experience with trauma or training related to trauma
