In this role you are initially given direct and detailed supervision and training in learning the principles and techniques of firefighting and equipment and building maintenance activities. After successful completion of training, you will be expected to perform the full range of fire suppression, safety and prevention duties on an in-service training basis and to learn and perform journey level skills in all areas of work assigned.

If you also want to be considered for the Firefighter-Paramedic or Fire Engineer Paramedic (Lateral) positions with Marin County Fire Department, you must complete separate applications.

ABOUT YOU

Our Highly Qualified Candidate: has experience performing Structural and Wildland Fire Suppression. The ideal candidate has experience performing rescue operations and experience performing emergency medical procedures. In addition, the ideal candidate has earned an associate degree or a four-year degree at an accredited college or university and has completed college level coursework taken in fire science or a related field. The ideal candidate for this position will have personal and professional integrity, be highly organized, possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, approach their work with enthusiasm, and demonstrate a strong commitment to customer service.

Special Requirements: Incumbents are required to work 24-hour shifts, overtime, weekends, on call, and holidays; work at any station in the County on short notice; perform routine and repetitive work; attend meetings and classes both on and off duty; work under various adverse and hazardous conditions; wear uniform; assist in training other employees; and maintain a clean and neat appearance.

Candidates selected are subject to fingerprinting by the Sheriff’s Department and must pass a Department of Justice LiveScan background check, a psychiatric assessment and background investigation prior to appointment.

Driver’s License: Ability to drive is an essential function of this assignment. Successful candidates must possess a valid California Class C driver’s license at the time of hire. Submission of a satisfactory driving history obtained from the Department of Motor Vehicles within the last 6 months will be required at the time of application. A valid California Class B Commercial driver’s license must be obtained within 12 months of appointment.
