The purpose of the Maintenance Worker II position is to perform building construction, inspections, repairs, and maintenance to PARD Facilities and Grounds Maintenance, including Historical, Administration, Museums, Recreation and Community Centers.
Duties may include but are not limited to:
• CARPENTRY WORK: Repair walls, ceilings, floors, siding, furniture, cabinets, doors, trim, etc.
• HARDWARE: Maintenance and repair of door hardware, including door closers, locksets, deadbolts, panic bars, door stops, hinges, thresholds, kick plates, and weather stripping.
• DRYWALL WORK: Installation of, and tape, float, and texture of gypsum board and application of spray and roll textures.
• PAINTING: Application of latex and oil base paints, varnish, sealers, on walls, ceilings and building exteriors.
• OPERATE POWER TOOLS: Drills, circular saws, routers, grinders, sanders, radial arm saws, table saws, pneumatic nail guns, etc.
• USE INDUSTRY TOOLS: Measure and layout using measuring tape, level, squares, string line, laser level, and transit.
• INSPECT: Buildings, structures, and RECORD data on appropriate forms, logs, and iPads, Desktop computers, etc.
Job Description:Maintenance Worker IIPurpose:Under general supervision, this position performs building maintenance and grounds maintenance tasks.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Inspects buildings and equipment for needed repairs and maintenance. Performs minor repairs to tables, chairs, cabinets, etc. Installs or replaces floor and ceramic tiles. Repairs or replaces electric plugs and cords.
- Drives vehicles as needed.
- Moves furniture, file cabinets, equipment, etc. using hand dollies.
- Performs service on pumps, air handlers, cooling towers, etc.
- Repacks, changes oil/filters, lubricates, etc.
- Operates drills, buffers, grinders, sanders, etc. Operate various power saws, i.e., radial arm, skill, etc. Operates acetylene cutting torch, welder, etc.
- Performs basic plumbing installations/repairs i.e., install and repair faucets, unclog drains, replace valves, etc.
- Measures using tapes, transits, levels, etc.
- Performs semi-skilled carpentry work in the construction and repair of walls, ceilings, etc.
- Reads profiles/blueprints.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
- Knowledge of equipment, methods, and materials used in routine carpentry, ground maintenance and basic plumbing.
- Knowledge of equipment, methods, and materials used in moderate levels of construction, i.e. building walls, hanging doors and windows.
- Knowledge of proper safety practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of City practice, policy and procedures.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with other City employees and the public.
- Skill in planning and organizing.
- Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
- Ability to operate power tools.
- Ability to read and understand simple blueprints.
Minimum Qualifications:- Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, plus two (2) years of custodial, building maintenance or construction work.
- Experience may substitute for the education up to the maximum of four (4) years.
Licenses and Certifications Required:Texas Class C Operator's License.
Preferred Qualifications:Preferred Experience:- Work experience in commercial building construction, repair, and maintenance.
- Work experience in grounds maintenance.
- Work experience in wood and metal stud structural framing.
- Work experience in drywall installation and tape, float, and texture of gypsum board.
- Work experience in interior and exterior painting.
- Work experience in acoustical ceiling grid and tile installation and repair.
- Work experience with concrete tools and pouring concrete.
- Work experience with a truck and trailer.
Preferred Certifications:- Fork Lift 29 CFR 1910.178 certification within 90 days of hire.
- Aerial Lifts 29 CFR 1926.453 certification within 90 days of hire.
- OSHA Construction Safety and Health 29 CFR 1910 certification within 90 days of hire.
Preferred Skills:- Basic proficiency with Desktop/iPad Computers and Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
Other:- Ability to travel to more than one work location.

- Physical Requirements: Tasks may involve bending, lifting, walking, carrying or using a force equal to lifting up to thirty-five (35) pounds. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Work environment includes inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme temperatures, and hazards associated with equipment operation including fumes, oils, gases and mists. Must be physically and mentally able to communicate, respond and work with participant’s needs and safety issues.

Salary Range : $22.05 - $24.26 per hour.

Work Schedule:- Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- May be required to work during special events, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Work schedule and location is subject to change based on department needs and programs.
- May be required to work during city emergencies such as extreme weather events.
