CLASSIFICATION SUMMARY The City of Kennewick is seeking Student Professionals to support the Finance and Human Resources Department. This position provides hands-on experience in accounting, recruitment and onboarding, and personnel services, while supporting day-to-day clerical and administrative functions. Candidates must be enrolled in college courses and eager to work in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

- Enter invoices and requisitions into accounts payable and requisitions system.
- Filing, scanning and copying various documents and reports.
- File organization (physical and electronic).
- Data entry and tracking maintenance.
- Pick-up and distribute incoming mail.
- Other duties as assigned.
Employment Standards- Must maintain a level of mental and physical fitness required to perform the essential functions of this classification.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
- Must be currently enrolled in college courses.
Supplemental RequirementsThe Student Clerk must demonstrate the following skills and abilities:
- Must demonstrate broad knowledge of Microsoft Operating Systems and Microsoft Office Suite products, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Ability to complete work with a high attention to quality and detail.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive financial and personnel information.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to foster a collaborative environment with department personnel, City of Kennewick staff, customers, and applicants.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Basic knowledge of accounting principles and/or HR practices preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS The Student Clerk must regularly speak and listen; must meet standard vision requirements; must regularly sit, stand, and walk; must demonstrate acceptable manual dexterity and fine motor skills; must regularly lift files, open file cabinets, and bend as necessary; and must occasionally lift office products or supplies weighing up to 30 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS This is a year-round, variable-hour position expected to work fewer than 30 hours per week. Some flexibility is available to work around class schedules. Evening, weekend, and holiday work is not required. The work typically takes place in an office environment. This classification is non-exempt under the FLSA.
This position is not subject to health benefits, but this position is eligible participate in the Washington State Retirement System (PERS) and the Washington State Paid Sick Leave accruing 1 hour for every 40 hours worked. Also, eligible for holiday pay at a pro-rated basis.
