DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES /ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Houston Public Library seeks a customer-service driven, creative, and energetic Library Service Supervisor (Stanaker Neighborhood Library), who has strong leadership skills, an ability to inspire staff, and a passion for serving as a hands-on and highly engaged manager at the Stanaker Neighborhood Library. The preferred candidate for this position will demonstrate strong communication skills, deliver outstanding customer service, exhibit a genuine interest in engaging with individuals of all ages and diverse backgrounds and possess a background and interest in leading teams and providing outreach & programming. Works one evening a week and every other weekend (Saturday and/or Sunday). Requires evenings and weekends (Saturday and Sundays) 8am-8:15pm shift work on a rotating basis.

The Library Service Supervisor (Stanaker Neighborhood Library) will manage the following essential functions:
• Direct and coordinate the daily operations of the Stanaker Neighborhood Library.
• Oversee, schedule, and coach team members to effectively complete tasks.
• Manage the facility, opening and closing the branch and submits maintenance requests as needed.
• Oversee programs and library services for all ages.
• Liaising with the community through outreach and developing partnerships with local community organizations.
• Take initiative to creatively solve problems and possess sound decision-making skills.
• Provide excellent customer service in person and by phone.
• Exhibit a high level of creativity for innovative services and programming.
• Have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft operating system and software.
• Perform collection development and maintenance.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
The position occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional very light lifting, such as three or four reams of papers or books (up to 20 pounds or an equivalent weight) may be required. There are no major sources of discomfort, i.e., essentially normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions. Requires the ability to make coordinated gross motor movements in response to changing external stimuli within moderately demanding tolerances; or the ability to make coordinated eye/hand movements on a patterned response space within low tolerance demands with no real speed requirements.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires a Bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Four (4) years of professional/paraprofessional experience in library, information services, or education is required.

SUBSTITUTION: Associates degree and six years of professional/paraprofessional experience in library, information services, or education may be substituted for the education and experience OR High School Diploma or GED and eight years of professional /paraprofessional experience in library, information services, or education may be substituted for the education and experience.

PREFERENCES

• Knowledge of current versions of MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and Sirsi Symphony,
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills are preferred.
• Experience in personnel management and supervision
• Experience working with diverse populations
• Experience working in public libraries and knowledge of planning and promoting library programs.
• Bilingual skills (English and Spanish)

**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6***
