Position Description

The County of Fresno invites applications for the position of Office Assistant I. Incumbents provide general clerical support to County departments which includes typing; filing; maintaining records; operating multi-line phones; providing information to the public concerning departmental or County operations; and performing related work as required.

Please Note : The current vacancies exist in the Department of Public Works and Planning; however, the eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill vacancies in other County departments as they occur.

HYBRID TELEWORK AVAILABILITY (Remote work options) - Some departments may offer hybrid telework opportunities which are dependent upon departmental directives. All schedules are subject to manager and/or supervisor approval. Candidates invited to interview for open positions may confirm availability of hybrid telework opportunities and discuss details with the hiring department.

As a condition of employment, some departments may require candidates to undergo and pass a background investigation and/or polygraph examination. These investigations include employment/credit histories, verification of education, arrest/criminal records, drug/alcohol use, and personal conduct. This list is neither inclusive nor exclusive; other relevant areas may be investigated and verified. This classification may require employees to work in Fresno County Detention Facilities. Fresno County Detention Facilities are "no hostage" facilities. This means that in the event you are taken hostage, the County will not bargain for your safe release.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must qualify under one (1) of the options listed below:

OPTION 1 :

Experience : One (1) year of full time, paid clerical work experience. Clerical work experience must have been gained in an office environment (e.g. experience gained as a cashier in a store or restaurant, delivery driver, or bank teller is not considered qualifying experience).

OPTION 2 :

Education : Completion of fifteen (15) semester units of coursework that is acceptable within the United States' accredited college or university system.

The following information is in addition to the options listed above:

License : Possession of a valid Class "C" driver's license, or equivalent, may be required.

Notes : Depending on the hiring department's needs, the ability to type 25 words or more per minute may be required.

Incumbents may be required to obtain and maintain Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Department of Justice (DOJ) clearance as a condition of employment.

Pursuant to Fresno County Personnel Rule 4 - Selection Process, applicants may be required to complete an examination process and successful candidates will be placed on an employment list effective for a minimum of 3 months and certified in final rank order as vacancies occur.
