Position DescriptionDraws blood from patients in correctional hospital facility for analysis or other medical purposes.
Major/Essential Functions- Perform blood draws and specimen collection using proper aseptic and safety techniques.
- Monitor and maintain specimen containers, ensuring all supplies are current and within expiration dates.
- Identify and promptly report any abnormal results, discrepancies, or processing errors to the charge nurse.
- Verify that all laboratory equipment is functioning correctly and maintain temperature and quality control logs.
- Use the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system accurately to support continuity and quality of patient care.
- Participate actively in Quality Assurance (QA) monitoring for laboratory equipment and processes.
- Order, track, and maintain adequate laboratory supplies to ensure uninterrupted operations.
- Follow established procedures for the collection, labeling, and preparation of all specimens.
- Collaborate effectively with the Managed Care team to meet overall unit goals and patient care objectives.
- Respond promptly to all work requests and communications.
- Support departmental goals by attending team meetings and contributing to performance improvement efforts.
Required QualificationsHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
