The anticipated hiring range for this position is $6,382 (step 1) - $7,046 (step 6) per month.

The final salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience.

Position Summary:

Under the general direction of the Associate Vice President of External Relations, the Government and Community Relations Regional Officer is responsible for cultivating and maintaining strategic relationships with external stakeholders, including nonprofit organizations, the campus community, and may assist with local elected officials on behalf of the university. The incumbent designs and executes a range of initiatives that promote, elevate, and enhance the visibility of California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH). The incumbent develops outreach strategies at both the local and regional levels, implementing engagement programs, partnership initiatives, special events, community meetings, and assists with government advocacy that align with university priorities and foster support among community leaders and other external partners. Additionally, the incumbent may inform the Vice President of University Advancement, the Associate Vice President of External Relations, and other university leadership on key issues, initiatives, and opportunities that advance CSUDH’s mission in the areas of community engagement and public outreach.

In accordance with Assembly Bill 963 (2020), the incumbent will serve as the primary lead on the university's civic engagement committee and voter engagement activities. The incumbent will lead the university's voter engagement committee and work with systemwide plans for all major elections as the civic and voter empower coordinator for the campus.

Incumbent will be expected to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Golf cart operation may be required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee a comprehensive strategy at the local and regional level to engage and leverage third party community, nonprofit, business organizations, and potentially local government.
• Lead strategies for working with key regional partners and influences in service of assigned projects, including invitations to key campus events; assists with government advocacy.
• Oversee coalitions of community, nonprofit, and business organizations around common interest areas with the university.
• Report issues of concern to AVP of External Relations regarding minority communities and other communities served by the university.
• Ensure community concerns are taken into account in planning and execution of university policies and programs by reporting such updates to the AVP of External Relations.
• Lead appropriate level of representation for the university in town/gown relationships in support of CSUDH programs and policy objectives

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: A bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent training.
• Experience: Administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs, equivalent to five years.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Extensive and in-depth knowledge of and ability to apply expertise in the advanced theories, principles, methods and practices associated with the functional specialty, program, and/or organizational unit, including applicable internal policies and procedures and pertinent laws and regulations.
• Knowledge of laws and regulations are highly complex and require substantial judgment and discretion in interpreting and applying them to the specialty or program area.
• Ability to interpret and integrate complex data and information to formulate appropriate courses of action which have broad and far reaching impact.
• Ability to effectively communicate with and influence high-level and diverse contacts inside and outside of the CSU system.
• Extensive and in-depth knowledge in project management including research and analytical methodologies.
• Substantial and broad knowledge of public and private entities including their organizational and operating structures, internal systems, and functional areas, as well as the impact of critical external entities on an organization.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree from an accredited university.
• 6-7 years progressive work-related experience; previous experience at a university level is preferred.
• Knowledge of event management.
• Working knowledge of educational policy, experience in relationship building, cultivation, and stewardship.
• Experience in community support building in greater LA County and in communities in and around CSUDH.
• Government, regional, and/or community relations experience.
