The Public Works Finance Division is hiring an Accounting Technician to join our team to provide technician level accounting services. Public Works is responsible for county road and flood control infrastructure, provides parks and recreation services, the maintenance and capital improvement to county buildings, county wide fleet services, and county purchasing. While this recruitment is to fill current openings in Contra Costa County’s Fire Protection District and Department of Conservation and Development, the eligible list may also be used for other County Departments. To read the complete job description, please click here .

Minimum Qualifications

Experience: Four (4) years of full-time experience in the preparation and processing of accounting documents and in the maintenance of accounting records, one (1) year of which was at the level of Contra Costa County Account Clerk Advanced classification.

Substitution for Experience: Completion of 12 semester or 18 quarter units in accounting from an accredited college or university can be substituted for one year of the required experience; completion of additional education units or a college degree in business administration, finance, accounting, auditing, or a closely related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Selection Process

Application Filing and Evaluation: Applicants will be required to complete a supplemental questionnaire at the time of application. Applications will be evaluated to determine which candidates will move forward in the next phase of the recruitment process.Online Assessment: Candidates who possess the minimum qualifications will be invited to participate in the online assessment. The assessment will be conducted to measure candidates' competencies as they relate to the job. These may include, but are not limited to, writing, attention to detail, and customer focus. CONVICTION HISTORY

After you receive a conditional job offer, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). DISASTER SERVICE WORKER

All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
