If you love working in and around high pressure steam plants and have experience providing operation, maintenance and repair for these types of facilities, than this is the job for you!
What you’ll do: - Supervises the operations of a high pressure steam heating plant which may include electrical production, or of a high pressure, high temperature water heating plant on an assigned shift.
- Monitors instruments, meters and other controls to ensure that production and voltages are being maintained in accordance with instructions.
- Monitors large solar array system to ensure proper temperatures are being maintained.
- Monitor and operate large scale refrigeration systems while make small repairs to the systems as needed.
- Take water samples and perform water chemistry test on boiler water and cooling tower water.
- Receives calls in to the plant for emergencies out in the hospital to go assess the reported issue or issues and address.
All you need for success: Minimum Qualifications - 2-4 years of skilled experience in the trade area
- Considerable knowledge of the operation and maintenance of high pressure steam; high temperature, hot water; and electrical generation equipment including generators, electronic controls, meters, pumps and related equipment.
- Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- Ability to operate, maintain and repair power plant and related equipment.
- Ability to make accurate estimates of time and materials required.
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and provide direction and guidance to staff.
- Ability to discern skill set needed for projects and whether it can be completed in-house or by a contractor. Ability to manage numerous projects.

- Prioritize excellent customer service for a wide and diverse network of internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to internal teams, state agencies, state officials, contractors, and the public.
- Perform high-quality, accurate work relating to the 24/7 operation, maintenance, repair, and oversight of boilers, chillers, high-pressure steam plants, and other mechanical equipment.
- Ensure compliance with administrative tasks including but not limited to compiling reports on monthly utility usage; water sampling; testing, monitoring, and adjusting equipment; ordering parts and supplies for future needs; and more.
- Participate in operational administration including monitoring and accounting for inventory, recommending need for outside contractors, creating job specifications, preparing bids for approval, and monitoring work and equipment.
- Troubleshoot and repair equipment and machinery, as well as complete preventative and corrective maintenance tasks as assigned.
- Follow all OA-FMDC health and safety protocols in addition to OSHA standards.
- Ensure facilities remain in compliance with agency programmatic requirements.
- Answer emergency calls and occasionally travel to other facilities to provide coverage and assistance.
- Provide coverage at state facilities after hours and/or for emergency purposes (i.e., severe weather, snow removal, water leaks, fire, and more) to ensure facilities and grounds are properly maintained and cleared for team members and the public to conduct state business.
- Ability to communicate, collaborate, and operate with integrity in a manner that inspires trust and builds positive rapport with a diverse group of stakeholders and the public.
- 2-4 years of skilled experience.
- Ability to plan, manage, and execute numerous time-sensitive projects and tasks independently or as part of a team using procedures, processes, regulations, and practices applicable to a specialized trade.
- Working knowledge of operations, maintenance, and repair of boilers, chillers, high-pressure steam plants, and other mechanical equipment, including but not limited to, knowledge of generators, electronic controls, meters, pumps, and Building Automation Systems (BAS).
- Ability to comprehend, analyze and interpret complex technical documentation and manuals to solve problems and provide options for resolution.
- Ability to discern skill set needed for projects and whether it can be completed in-house or by a contractor.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license from Missouri or from an adjacent state if you reside outside of Missouri.
- Safety-first mindset with considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- OSHA 10 and/or 30 preferred, but FMDC can provide if needed.
- Excellent attendance, work ethic, attention to detail, and critical thinking skills.

If the individual selected or the position is eligible for a pay differential (e.g., shift, security, or years of service), it will be added to the total compensation in your paycheck. A pay differential does not raise your base pay.
*This position is physically demanding. Examples of job duties may include prolonged periods of walking/standing/sitting/bending/driving, climbing ladders, ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds, working in inclement weather and working on uneven or elevated surfaces. This list is not all inclusive, but a general representation of duties that may be encountered in this position, however other duties may be assigned contingent upon business needs. Please note, this position is considered a “Category 2” under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), meaning the incumbent will be compensated for overtime (hours actually worked over forty hours in a workweek) at the rate of time and one-half.
