As an engineer in our Sewer division, you'll design, evaluate, and oversee the critical infrastructure that safely manages wastewater from neighborhoods to treatment facilities. From pump stations to treatment processes, your technical expertise will ensure reliable, compliant systems that protect public health and the environment. This is infrastructure engineering at its most essential.

Already a licensed PE? You'll start directly as a Sewer Engineer (Engineer 2), serving as project manager for capital and operational projects from day one. You'll gain specialized expertise in a critical utility system while working with cutting-edge asset management technology, managing projects from concept through commissioning, and developing deep technical knowledge in wastewater infrastructure that will make you an invaluable resource to our community.

Preferred Education, Experience or Other Qualifications
Competitive Selection: When this position is open for competitive recruitment, candidates will be selected and appointed at the level (Engineer 1 or Engineer 2) for which they meet the minimum qualifications and can demonstrate the required competencies. Candidates who possess PE licensure and can demonstrate the full scope of Engineer 2 responsibilities will be considered at that level; candidates without PE licensure will be considered at the Engineer 1 level.

Career Progression: This position is part of an automatic progression series. Incumbents hired at the Engineer 1 level will progress to Engineer 2 upon obtaining their Professional Engineer (PE) license and demonstrating satisfactory work performance, without the need for reapplication or competitive selection.

Retirement:
Employees are covered under the PERS retirement plan provided through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems and Social Security.

Deferred Compensation (IRS Plan 457b): tax-deferred savings program

Holidays
11 paid holidays and 2 additional floating holiday per year. One additional floating holiday after 10 years of service.

Vacation Leave
New employees are credited with 48 hours of annual leave upon hire and will be begin accruing at the rate of 8 hours per month starting on their 7th month of employment. Employees may carry over 360 hours from one calendar year to the next. Annual leave accrual will increase upon tenure, as follows:

Upon completion of 2 years: 15 days per year (10.00 hours per month)
Upon completion of 5 years: 20 days per year (13.33 hours per month)
Upon completion of 10 years: 25 days per year (16.67 hours per month)

Sick Leave
All new hires will be credited with 48 hours of sick leave upon hire and will begin accruing at the rate of 8 hours per month starting on their 7th month of employment. Employees may carry over 1200 hours from one calendar year to the next.

Salary:

$84,260.80 - $123,406.40 Annually
