Plans Examiner I
Description
Overview Under immediate supervision, the Plans Examiner I is responsible for performing entry level technical work reviewing plans and/or blueprints, specifications submitted with building permits, and ensures compliance with building codes, zoning ordinances, and other related City ordinances. Processes commercial and residential plans according to departmental procedures. Exercises no supervision.
Responsibilities • Examines plans and specifications of residential, minor commercial structures, and signs to ensure compliance with applicable codes
• Communicates with public, architects, engineers, developers, and other professionals to resolve any issues or answer questions
• Processes and provides control of residential and commercial plans and applications per department procedures
• Reviews plans to ensure proposed construction conforms to the International Building Code and International Residential Code
• Examines plans to ensure landscaping, irrigation, tree preservation, and other various aspects of the UDC are adhered to during building phases
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work • Non-Exempt - Full-Time
• Non-Rotating 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm; must be available to work additional hours as needed.
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

Qualifications • Associates Degree or two (2) year technical certificate
• Two (2) years of experience
Licenses and Certifications Certifications • ICC Building Plans Examiner or ICC Residential Plans Examiner within twelve (12) months of hire
Required • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications and may request additional information. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
