Public Works Technician I-Channel
Description
Overview
The Public Works Technician I - Channel is responsible for the preventative and corrective maintenance of the stormwater infrastructure and drainage system operations
Responsibilities
• Obeys all traffic laws while operating fleet vehicles
• Follows City policies and performs daily pre/post inspections on all types of equipment and vehicles
• Follows the Traffic control standards as per the Texas MUTCD Work Zone Traffic Control Guide
• Directs traffic control at jobsite by flagging, cones, barrel and barricades, setup message boards, water barrier, Type I, II, II Barricade during normal and emergency operations
• Works closely with Technician II's and III's
• Works with a crew to install, repair, and maintain storm inlets, and manholes
• Operates hand tools, water pumps, and power saws; works in confined spaces and demonstrates workplace safety
• Investigates issues reported on the drainage system
• Responds to after hours and weekend emergencies. Must work under emergency responses during and or after any City emergency event. Example: Tropical storms, ice storms or any other city emergency
• Works a On-Call duty rotation schedule and must be able to work a different rotation shift under emergency responses
• Performs with a professional mindset, able to lead a team, if needed
• Keeps materials in stock in vehicle assignment and communicates when supplies/ materials are low
• C ommunicates with internal and external customers; ensures proper communication with the Foreman, work coordinator, planner/ scheduler and assistant director
• Completes daily reports and work orders ensuring they are legible
• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
• Non-exempt - Full-Time
• Rotating 40-hour work week, 24-hour shifts, 7 days a week. Must be available to work additional hours as needed
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications
• High School Diploma/ GED
• No prior experience required
Licenses and Certifications
Required
• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
Required - Within six (6) months of hire
• Certification in Traffic Control & Flagging
• Certification in Confine Space
• Certification in Trenching and Shoring

Basis of Rating
A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
