Description

Eastern Municipal Water District is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill a vacancy in our Mechanical Services Department for the position of Maintenance Trades Assistant. Under immediate supervision, performs unskilled and semi-skilled work in assisting and supporting craft and trade personnel in the construction, maintenance, repair, and servicing of District systems, facilities, vehicles, and equipment; and performs related duties, as assigned.

Range 204: $25.30 - $31.54 Hourly; $4,385.33 - $5,466.93 Monthly

COLA increase of 2.7% will take effect December 28, 2025. Please refer to the updated Salary Schedule and Classification and Salary Schedule posted on the EMWD website.

*Personnel in this classification are subject to on-call, which may include rotating-duty schedule, weekends and 24-hour emergency call out with little or no notice.

The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

1. Knowledge: Basic understanding of mechanical systems, pumps, chemical systems, plumbing, and coating systems. Knowledge of preventive maintenance procedures to keep equipment running smoothly. Familiarity with OSHA regulations and safety standards to ensure a safe working environment. Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment like hoists and compressors.
2. Skills & Abilities: Ability to assist with routine maintenance, and repairs on mechanical systems. Problem-solving skills to diagnose and fix issues efficiently. Effective communication skills to interact with team members, supervisors, and contractors. Ability to work well in a team, contributing positively to group efforts and managing conflicts. Meticulousness in performing tasks to avoid small oversights that can lead to bigger problems. Flexibility to adapt to changing situations and learn new technologies or techniques.

The Maintenance Trades Assistant may be assigned to one of a variety of maintenance departments, such as buildings and grounds, construction, fleet shop, electrical, or mechanical.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS : This entry-level classification performs routine construction, maintenance, repair, and servicing of District systems, facilities, vehicles, and equipment duties. Incumbents may be assigned to multiple trades areas to assist journey level staff. Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
Receives immediate supervision from assigned supervisory or management personnel. Exercises no direct supervision over staff.
