POSITION PROFILE

The Planner II position is a support role within the Subdivision Plat Review team and is expected to review development applications for compliance with various City ordinances including Chapter 42 of the City’s Code of Ordinances. Planner II provides coaching to Development Services Division junior personnel, collaborates with other departments and external agencies as well as processes development proposals handled by the division. Duties include, but are not limited to, carrying out technical reviews of plats, research, analysis and reporting relative to City ordinances and other planning programs such as MTFP (Major Thoroughfare Freeway Plan) amendment process.

The ideal candidate can communicate complex ideas and department goals to neighborhood organizations, civic clubs, council member’s office and other stakeholders. He/She is expected to exercise greater independence and judgment, receiving only general guidance from supervisors or managers.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires demonstrated knowledge of principles and practices of planning, as well as in-depth knowledge within one or more planning specialties. Knowledge of this level is typically obtained through experience and a Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Geography, Public Policy or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :
Four years of progressively responsible planning experience required.

A Master's degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Geography, Public Policy or closely related field may be substituted for two years of experience.
