Job Summary: The Assistant Director of Electric Utilities will be responsible for the planning, design, operation, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of the City’s electric utility system.
Roles and Responsibilities: - Manages overall daily operations of engineering, construction, SCADA, fiber, and warehouse operations.
- Manages, directs, coordinates, schedules, monitors and evaluates the work of subordinates, including interviewing applicants and imposing disciplinary measures when required.
- Executes supervisory duties over direct reports to include recruitment, training, performance evaluation, discipline, and terminations.
- Develops, or oversees the development of, policies, procedures and methods to be followed by subordinates.
- Develops and recommends short and long-range strategic operational plans for the department.
- Establishes policies, procedures, and best practices in alignment with city, state, and federal regulations.
- Develops and implements strategic outsourcing programs for all aspects of projects that that cannot be completed with or by city staff.
- Acts as the City’s representative on contracted projects by tracking schedules, budgets, contractor pay estimates, change orders and other requirements and documentation contained in project contract documents.
- Makes recommendations for and administers department budgets.
- Develops, proposes, and implements department expenditure needs; drafts and submits capital improvement proposal plans.
- Prepares and presents various reports and presentation documents suitable for the Municipal Utility Board, City Council, and/or the general public.
Qualifications• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or a related field • Five years’ experience in the planning, design, operation, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of an electric utility system. • Three years of supervisory experience in a management capacity. • Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
