The Division of Community and Public Health is seeking a senior leader to serve as the Chief, Bureau of Environmental Epidemiology (BEE). This is a highly responsible position that provides leadership and skilled management for environmental health programs including health and risk assessment, childhood lead poisoning prevention, healthy drinking water efforts, and the residential lead hazard reduction program. This position will lead a team that serves individuals, communities, businesses, and other partners by assessing and mitigating public health risks from the environment.

The salary indicated represents a base pay rate. If the individual selected or the position is eligible for a pay differential (e.g., shift, security, or years of service), it will be added to the total compensation in your paycheck. A pay differential does not raise your base pay.

• Provide technical support, leadership, and guidance to the bureau programs and staff. Ensure staff are provided appropriate training, resources, guidance and direction to successfully perform duties.
• Oversee strategic planning, and ensuring continuous quality improvement.
• Maintain and cultivate effective collaborative relationships with federal, state, and local agencies operating parallel or complementary programs, including U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), U.S. Center for Disease Control and Protection (CDC), MO Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Local Public Health Agencies, etc. Seek opportunities to enhance collaboration between agencies, as well as businesses and non-governmental organizations to promote environmental health for the public.
• Ensure effective budget management, grant administration, and fiscal and contract processes and accountibilty.
• Manage a multidisciplinary team of environmental public health professionals and program associates performing activities. Ensure that performance objectives are understood by employees. Provide assistance and advice and counseling, direction, feedback, and correction to staff as necessary. Oversee hiring and any HR actions necessary.
• Represent the agency in state, federal and national forums.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in environmental science, public health, or related field and 6 or more years of experience.
• At least four years of experience in environmental or public health management.
• Strong understanding of environmental epidemiologic principles and public health interventions. Familiarity with environmental hazards such as lead, indoor air quality, and/or chemical exposure hazards is preferred.
• Ability to lead complex cross functional teams and manage stakeholder relationships with diverse partners.
• Knowledge of state and federal grant management rules is preferred.
