Description

The County of San Mateo's Controller's Office is seeking two highly motivated candidates for the position of Senior Property Tax Specialist.

Under general direction of the Property Tax Manager, the Senior Property Tax Specialist plans, oversees, monitors, and coordinates various key functions of the Controller's property tax division, including but not limited to the roll extension and apportionments, and various reporting requirements. This position also assigns, directs, reviews, and evaluates the work of property tax accounting staff; and performs related work as required.

This is the supervisory level in the Property Tax Specialist series. Incumbents in this class exercise a high degree of independent judgment on diverse and specialized projects and have significant accountability and ongoing decision-making associated with the work. The Senior Property Tax Specialist is distinguished from the Property Tax Specialist for its supervisory responsibilities. The Senior Property Tax Specialist will exercise direct and indirect supervision over lower-level supervisory, professional, technical, and clerical employees.

Qualifications

Experience and Education : Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skills is:

Education : Graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in accounting, finance, business administration or a closely related field

Experience : Two years of responsible accounting work at the journey level or above, preferably in a governmental or public agency, which includes work experience in property tax accounting.

Departmental Promotional Only. Only current County of San Mateo employees in the Controller's Office with at least six months (1040 hours) of continuous service in a classified regular, probationary, or extra-help/limited term position prior to the final filing date may apply.

The examination process will consist of an application screening (weight: pass/fail) based on the candidates' application and responses to the supplemental questions. Candidates who pass the application screening will be invited to a panel interview, which may include a pre-interview exercise (weight: 100%). Depending on the number of applicants, an application appraisal of education and experience may be used in place of other examinations. All applicants who meet the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination. All examinations will be given in San Mateo County, California, and applicants must participate at their own expense.
