The Position:

The City of Santa Clara is seeking an experienced, energetic and collaborative leader to serve as its next Inspections Manager to support the leadership and daily operations of the Building Division. Under direct supervision of the Building Official, or under the general direction of the Community Development Director, this position serves as the responsible manager overseeing our Building Inspection group and works in close collaboration with our Plan Review, Code Enforcement, Permit Tech and Admin teams.

The Building Inspections Manager ensures the consistent application of state and local codes, provides training and technical guidance to staff, assists in the development and implementation of division policies and procedures and may perform complex inspections as needed. In the absence of the Building Official, this position may act as the Building Official and provide overall divisional oversight. The role requires strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and effective communication and leadership in a dynamic regulatory environment. A CASp certification is highly desirable but not required.

As a member of the City's Unclassified Service, this is an "at-will" position and the incumbent serves at the discretion of the City Manager.

The annual salary range for this position is $186,925.68 - $241,923.36. This position may be filled at or near the minimum of the salary range.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Education Requirements:

A Bachelor's degree in construction management, business, public administration, engineering, architecture, or a related field.

Minimum Experience Requirements:

Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in building inspection, including two (2) years of supervisory experience in a municipal building department/division.

Acceptable Substitution:

Additional experience may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

License/Certifications:

• Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required at the time of application and for the duration of employment.
• Certification as an inspector in at least three of the following areas (building, electrical, mechanical, or plumbing) by the International Code Council (ICC) or International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO), or other recognized agency, is required.

Other Requirements:

• May be required to work unusual hours (nights and weekends) and to be available on an on-call basis.
• Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job assignment.
