26/80J22/02MC SUMMARY OF POSITION The County of Monterey Health Department- Administration and Clinic Services Bureau are hiring full-time positions for Senior Account Clerk.
Administration The Senior Account Clerk’s focus will be on accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash handling, and reconciliation accounting under the direction of the Accountant III and Finance Manager II. The Senior Account Clerk will post financial transactions to a variety of bookkeeping records, verify source documents for accuracy, post adjustments to records as needed to correct errors, and assist with Travel and Mileage reimbursement requests.
Clinic Services Clinic Services is hiring a Senior Account Clerk to support day-to-day Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions for the department. Primary duties include processing accounts payable transactions (reviewing and entering invoices, verifying supporting documentation, researching discrepancies, and preparing items for payment), supporting accounts receivable activities (posting deposits and payments and reconciling logs and reports), and maintaining accurate financial records in accordance with County procedures. The position will also assist with routine financial summaries and reports and respond to internal and external inquiries regarding transactions.

This classification is part of a flexible series. Incumbents appointed at the lower level of the career series may be promoted up to the higher level of the career series subject to their meeting the employment standards for the higher class and a recommendation for their promotion by the appointing authority in accordance with the Flexible Staffing Program and Guidelines.
The Eligible List established by this recruitment process will be used to fill current and future vacancies, both regular and temporary, as they arise.
Examples of Duties- Posts financial data to a variety of bookkeeping records including account cards, journals, ledgers and logs; sorts and verifies source documents for accuracy
- Receives and disburses funds; may prepare and sign checks; balances funds received with logs and journals
- Following general procedures, summarizes and reconciles financial transactions recorded on various logs, journals and ledgers; posts adjustments to records as needed to balance records and to correct errors in the status of accounts
- Computes fees, penalties and interest charges
- Prepares new bookkeeping records and resolves difficult bookkeeping problems with assistance from supervisors and professional accountants
- Responds to questions regarding financial transactions by reviewing files and records; prepares special reports in response to general directives
- May maintain departmental payroll records, prepare requisitions and process payment authorizations; keeps records of these transactions
- May assist in the supervision of other clerical staff by reviewing work for accuracy, participating in the selection of new employees, reviewing the performance of subordinate employees, answering questions and providing training

- Review work for accuracy and procedural correctness

- Prepare financial and statistical summaries
- Establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with those contacted through the course of work
- Work neatly, accurately, and systematically
Examples of Experience/Education/TrainingAny combination of training, education and/or experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities and required conditions of employment is qualifying. An example of a way these requirements might be acquired is:
Experience : Eighteen months of experience performing statistical and financial record keeping tasks equivalent to an Account Clerk in Monterey County
OR
Training: Completion of a training course leading to an account/statistical clerk certificate and six months of supervised on the job training.
Additional InformationCONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: The required conditions of employment include, but are not limited to the following:
- Successfully complete a background check to include fingerprinting.
- Possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver’s license or the ability to provide suitable transportation that is approved by the appointing authority.
