Job Description:Purpose:Uses comprehensive knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures to organize and manage the operations maintenance, regulatory compliance, and assets of the Water Meter Operations Division, which includes administration and oversight of enabling Advanced Meter Infrastructure (AMI) software and systems for Austin Water.
Duties, Functions and Responsibilities: Essential duties and functions, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following. Other related duties may be assigned.
- Manages strategic oversight and administration of enabling AMI software and systems designed to capture metering required to support billing administration and customer service activities.
- Develops, interprets, and manages policies and agreements associated with meter reading practices and customer facing field activities for Austin Water.
- Provides reports and audit oversight for the accuracy, effectiveness, efficiency, and reliability of system field activities.
- Provides contract management oversight for entities associated with water meter operations.
- Negotiates and manages performance measurements for contracts for services provided by vendors.
- Interprets data and technical specifications to assess potential impact on system metering reliability working collaboratively with Austin Water teams.
- Prepares, consolidates, and monitors division-wide budget based on budgets for Advanced Meter Infrastructure program.
- Promotes confidence and public trust through education, communication, and working collaboratively to build internal and external relationships.
- Supports strategic outcomes and drives improvements in key metrics on citizen satisfaction with City services.
- Directs the handling of internal/external customer inquiries regarding meter and billing.
- Facilitates, conducts, and attends meetings and represents the division, department, and City.

Minimum Qualifications:- Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a relevant field of study, plus six (6) years of progressively responsible experience related to the activities of the division, including three (3) years of experience which were in a supervisory or management capacity.
- Experience may substitute for the education up to the maximum of four (4) years.

Notes to Candidate:Position Overview: The Austin Water AMI Meter Services Division Manager provides leadership and strategic direction for Austin Water’s Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) systems and field operations. This role oversees a team responsible for meter installation, maintenance, and repair, ensuring operational excellence and customer satisfaction.
Key responsibilities include managing policies, contracts, audits, and vendor performance, while leveraging AMI data analytics to drive efficiency and inform operational planning. The Division Manager directs budgeting, evaluates emerging technologies, and champions continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery and achieve strategic goals. This position requires strong collaboration skills, political acumen, and the ability to build trust across stakeholders. Flexibility and sound judgment are essential for addressing field escalations and aligning priorities with organizational objectives.
Pay Range: $91,080.00 - $117,000.00 annually
Position(s) will be filled at the following location: Webberville Rd. Service Center ( 2600 Webberville Rd , Austin, TX 78702)
Days and Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.However,
flexibility is required, as the role will occasionally require work outside of regular business hours to address escalations as needed.
