CAREER DESCRIPTIONInformation Processing Technician Salary may be negotiable within the applicable range of the classification and successful candidate's qualifications, subject to appropriate authorization.
OPEN TO THE PUBLIC This recruitment will establish an open eligible list and will be used to fill current and future Information Processing Technician vacancies until the next recruitment. The eligible list established may be used to fill positions in similar and/or lower classifications within the County of Orange.

THE OPPORTUNITYThe County of Orange is seeking a highly skilled Information Processing Technician to lead the production of complex, high-impact official documents and digital materials. This role is essential for ensuring the accuracy and professional standards of records, including but not limited to business letters, memos, financial reports, and formal proposals.
Working under general supervision, the Information Processing Technician exercises a high degree of independence in transforming raw data and recordings into signature-ready products. This position requires fast and accurate keyboarding, a sharp eye for catching grammar and spelling errors, and hands-on ability to run office equipment like high-speed scanners and printers.
Key responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Producing a wide variety of difficult materials, including reports and financial documents, through advanced keyboarding and data manipulation.
- Ensuring document quality and signature readiness by performing high-level proofreading for grammar, structure, and content appropriateness.
- Operating and maintaining peripheral equipment such as scanners, printers, and telecommunication tools to support a digital workflow.
- Supporting office efficiency by acting as a lead worker, assisting training new workers, and providing administrative coverage to maintain seamless operations.
CORE COMPETENCIESThe ideal candidate will balance high-volume processing demands with the technical judgment necessary to maintain complex formatting, data manipulation, and departmental records. Additionally, the Information Processing Technician must demonstrate sufficient hands-on experience using Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and type at a corrected rate from 45 to 60 words per minute.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSCertain assignments or departments may require a more extensive background investigation as a condition of employment. Candidates must successfully clear this process to the satisfaction of the hiring agency prior to their start date. RECRUITMENT PROCESSApplicants who have demonstrated meeting the minimum and/or desirable qualifications based on their responses to the supplemental question(s) will be invited to participate in one or more job-related assessments.
Online Assessment (Weighted 100%):
Applicants will be notified of their test date and access code, if applicable. After the assessment is completed and scored, only those applicants who are most competitive will move forward to the next step in the recruitment process.
Application Screening by Human Resources Services (HRS):
After the assessment is completed, applications will be screened for qualifications that are highly desirable and most needed to successfully perform the duties of this job. Only the names of candidates whose qualifications were verified will be referred to the next step regardless of their score on the assessment.
Eligible List: Once the candidates’ application screening has been completed, HRS will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.
