CAREER DESCRIPTIONDentist Salary may be negotiable within the range listed above, based on position requirements and successful candidate's qualifications, subject to appropriate authorization.
This recruitment is open to the public and will be open for a minimum of five (5) business days and will remain open on a continuous basis until 11:59p.m. (PST) on the day the County's needs are met.

open eligible list. This list will be used to fill current and future Dentist positions. This recruitment may also be used to fill positions in similar and/or lower classifications throughout the County of Orange.
THE AGENCY
The
County of Orange, Health Care Agency (HCA) is a dynamic organization dedicated to creating and supporting an environment that promotes the achievement of optimal individual, family, and community health. Under the direction of the Agency Director, a new and dynamic executive team with an organizational structure comprised of five (5) service areas - Administrative Services, Behavioral Health Services, Correctional Health Services, Public Health Services, and Specialized Medical Services - is committed to meeting the health needs of the diverse Orange County community.
CORRECTIONAL HEALTH SERVICES The
Correctional Health Services (CHS) Division consists of the following service areas: Adult Correctional Health Services (ACHS) and Juvenile Health Services (JHS).
Adult Correctional Health Services (ACHS) provides medical, dental, nursing, infection control, health education and pharmaceutical services at a community standard of care and also provides mental health services, including 24-hour emergency triage and crisis intervention, suicide prevention, treatment beds, individual and group therapy, substance use counseling, medication assessment, and discharge planning to all adult inmates in the County's five (5) correctional facilities.
Juvenile Health Services (JHS)provides medical, nursing, dental, and pharmaceutical services at a community standard of care for youth who reside in the County’s four residential facilities operated by County of Orange Probation (OC Probation) and Social Services Agency (SSA) departments and contracts with hospitals for inpatient and specialty care. The Juvenile Health Services program has two clinics-Juvenile Hall Health Clinic and Orangewood Family Health Clinic.
THE OPPORTUNITY CHS seeks a Dentist who is interested and willing to provide dental services and care to patients within the Orange County Probation Department and Orange County Jail system.
Roles and responsibilities for the Dentist will include but are not limited to:
- Conducting patient examinations to assess required dental treatments
- Reviewing dental x-rays and analyzing results
- Providing dental education, diagnostic, and treatments to the designated populations, including routine and emergent dental procedures.
- Providing information and assistance to the Dental Officer for the purpose of program development, implementation, and evaluation
- Working with and remaining responsible for the assigned Dental Assistant(s)
- Participating in development and maintenance of public relations with other departments including Probation and OC Sheriff’s Department, other health disciplines, management, and administration officials
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS & CORE COMPETENCIESThe ideal candidate will have at least one (1) year of work experience practicing general dentistry. In addition, the ideal candidate will possess the following core competencies:
Professional & Technical ExpertiseDental Expertise and Knowledge of:
- California Dental Laws and OSHA Regulations - Infection Control & Prevention
- Dental digital x-ray systems, computer programs or technology
- Dental x-rays, including reviewing and interpreting Periapical (PA), Bitewing (BW), and Panoramic x-rays
- Oral conditions and anatomies
- Specialized Procedures - Perform complicated third molar surgical extractions and root canal treatments competently
- Maintenance of dental instruments and equipment
- Safe Medication prescriptions
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Communication | Building & Maintaining Relationships- Communicating effectively with patients of all ages and from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds
- Building and maintaining effective and collaborative working relationships with CHS healthcare team, security staff, community hospital staff, and other County agencies
- Willingness to work as part of a multidisciplinary team in order to complete tasks and treat patients
Accountability | Adaptability- Accepting supervision and constructive criticism in which it is offered
- Completing client's dental charts and records accurately
- Maintaining asepsis in dental operatory and ensuring compliance with community standards when performing dental services and procedures
- Having the flexibility to work at assigned locations and schedules to meet program's needs, including weekend / evening / holiday schedules
- Working effectively in a changing and busy environment, and adjusting as necessary
Safety Focus- Reducing security-related liability risks by being compliant with standards and office procedures as it relates to correctional settings
- Being aware of any environmental hazards while working inside the correctional facility
- Being alert and aware of personal safety and security at all times while providing treatment to clients
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSClick

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS & ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS- Incumbents must NOT have felony convictions or be on any form of probation.
- Must be able to pass and maintain background investigation to the satisfaction of the Orange County Probation Department and Orange County Sheriff-Coroner. Background screening includes completing a Personal History Form, interview with a background investigator, fingerprinting and may include a polygraph test. Some of the areas considered in the background screening include prior convictions, traffic violations, drug use and credit problems, employment history, professional references and education verification (i.e. degree, license, or official transcripts. Foreign degrees require an evaluation of U.S. equivalency by an agency that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (N.A.C.E.S.).
- The Correctional facilities are a 24-hour, 7 day a week operation. Incumbents may be required to work on weekends, evenings or holidays.

Based on the Department's needs, the selection procedures listed above may be modified. All candidates will be notified of any changes in the selection procedure.Eligible ListOnce the assessment has been completed, HRS will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future vacancies.
