Contra Costa County’s District 5 spans the county’s northern waterfront in almost its entirety. Thus, it is a demographically diverse district with constituents representing several cultural and language groups and many spoken languages. The Board of Supervisors’ District 5 office is seeking aCommunication Director - Deputy Chief of Staffto serve as a senior advisor and lead communications professional for the District 5 Supervisor. This position combines strategic communications leadership with hands-on district engagement, multimedia content development, and direct staffing of the Supervisor at public meetings and community events.
You will develop and execute communications strategies that reflect District 5 priorities, support constituent engagement, and elevate community-centered storytelling.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public relations, business, communications, management, political science, economics, psychology, sociology, social science or closely related field.

Experience: Four (4) years of experience within a public or governmental municipality which involved sensitive public issues and exposure to policy and budget review and interpretation, preferably serving a member of a Board of Supervisors.

License: Possession of a valid driver's license may be required depending upon assignment to perform the essential job functions of the position.

Substitution for Education: Additional years of qualifying experience may be substituted on a year-to-year basis for the required education.

DISASTER SERVICE WORKER

All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
