The JobThe Department of Public Health (DPH) is recruiting for
Statistical Analystswho plan, organize, develop, and implement analysis and statistical applications for departmental programs. Statistical Analysts are key members of a team dedicated to advancing health equity in underserved communities. This role involves conducting rigorous statistical analyses to uncover disparities in health outcomes and access to healthcare services. The analyst will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to generate evidence-based insights that drive interventions and policies aimed at reducing health inequalities. The incumbent assigned to this role will support the Community Vital Signs (CVS) Services.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Lead data collection and dataset management for the Community Health Assessment (CHA) and Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP), coordinating with agencies, partners, and consultants.
- Assess data sources, quality, accessibility, and gaps to maintain a comprehensive and accurate data landscape in support of Community Vital Signs (CVS) program.
- Develop and implement data collection plans that meet all requirements for CHA/CHIP development.
- Build and sustain strong relationships with data partners to ensure reliable access to high-quality data.
- Develop dashboards, analytical products, and reports, and conduct or oversee analyses for Working and Strategy Groups.
- Select, implement, and manage data systems and tools, including coordination of consultant work.
- Provide data support to internal and external partners, including ad hoc analyses and special projects.
- Translate complex data into clear, visually compelling materials and coordinate stakeholder engagement, meetings, and workgroup support, including the Data Advisory Team.

Minimum RequirementsApplicants must meet one of the following options: Option 1: Education: A Master's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university recognized by the United States Department of Education in Statistics, Math, Physical/Behavioral/Social/Life/Other Science, or Public/Business Administration,
which must include twelve (12) semester (18) quarter units of completed
graduate level coursework in Statistics or Research Methodology. An unofficial transcript listing all completed coursework
must be submitted with the application.
Option 2: Education: A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university recognized by the United States Department of Education in Statistics, Math, Physical/Behavioral/Social/Life/Other Science, or Public/Business Administration,
which must include twelve (12) semester (18 quarter) units of completed
upper division coursework in Statistics or Research Methodology. An unofficial transcript listing all completed and in-progress coursework
must be submitted with the application.
-AND- Experience: One (1) year of technical or professional-level full-time equivalent experience conducting research studies, mathematical analysis, or statistical analysis using SAS, SPSS or other statistical software programs. Time spent in these duties must be clearly distinguished from time spent on other duties such as teaching.
Qualifying degrees or coursework must be completed at a college or university accredited by an accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education. In addition, degrees completed outside of the U.S. must be accompanied by an evaluation report from a reputable credential evaluation service indicating equivalency to degrees or coursework completed at a college or university accredited by an accrediting association recognized by the United States Department of Education.
Desired QualificationsDesirable skills include the ability to:
- Manipulate data and prepare visualizations using Excel
- Conduct and interpret the results of multivariate analysis using statistical methods
- Prepare visualizations using business intelligence platforms (Tableau and Power BI)
- Utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software products for spatial analysis
- Query data and write scripts using SQL; utilize relational database systems
- Program data-related commands using SAS, SPSS, STATA, R, Python, or equivalent
- Create automated reports and develop data dashboards for web publication
- Conduct studies and/or analysis of Demographic/Epidemiological/Health/Crime Statistics or evaluations to measure government program/policy effectiveness
Selection ProcessAn

- Qualitative and Quantitative Data Analysis
