DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Houston Public Works is seeking candidates who can:
• Troubleshoot, maintain, manage, and upgrade existing instrumentation and low voltage electrical systems to ensure accuracy,
effectiveness, and reliability.
• Research and analyze cause of failures; repair, perform calibrations, replace, and install new equipment/components and related hardware to maximize functionality.
• Perform preventive maintenance ensuring safe, clean, and continuous operating conditions.
• Prepare and update various records, logs, and reports.
• Respond to emergency calls during and after hours for various types of instrumentation and low voltage electrical failures and
shutdowns.
• Document and monitor work assignments in a Work Management System.
• Research technical product specifications.
• Inspects field locations to determine appropriate types and placement of instrumentation components for installation.
WORKING CONDITIONS This position may involve considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on an occasional basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time. There are occasional exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution.
This is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier 1 Level.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires an Associate's degree (two-year program) in a computer science, instrumentation, or electronics discipline or the equivalent, such as certification in a technical/specialty program of up to three years in duration.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS One year of experience in the design, installation, operation and/or maintenance of a computerized data network or industrial control system is required.
Relevant experience (as described above) may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT May be required to obtain a valid class "C" or higher Texas Water or Wastewater Plant Operator's license within one year of employment.
PREFERENCESPreference will be given to applicants with experience in maintaining medium/low voltage systems, knowledge of electrical controls, or that hold an active Texas Electrical Journeyman License.
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.** GENERAL INFORMATION SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED: None
