This is a temporary part-time “extra help" at-will position. Extra help positions work less than 1,000 hours per fiscal year (July 1 - June 30) subject to budget availability and agency needs.

About the Opportunity

The City of Ventura is seeking a motivated and service-oriented Management Intern for Summer 2026 to join the City Manager’s Office. This opportunity is ideal for individuals who are passionate about public service and interested in gaining firsthand experience in local government operations. Under general supervision, the Management Intern will perform a variety of research, analytical, and administrative assignments, and assist in preparing comprehensive reports, studies, and recommendations that support City leadership and community priorities.

This position provides meaningful, hands-on exposure to municipal government through participation in special projects, policy research, and key organizational initiatives. Interns will contribute to work that directly impacts the Ventura community while developing strong analytical skills, professional judgment, initiative, and collaboration within a dynamic, team-oriented environment.

Key responsibilities include:


Minimum Qualifications - Required

Education: Graduation from a college or university with a bachelor's degree AND currently enrolled in a program of study towards a master's degree. Senior undergraduate students are also considered.

Licenses: Depending on assignment, possession of a valid California Class C driver license may be required.

About the Department

The City Manager’s Office serves as the administrative leadership of the City, operating under the authority granted by the City Charter adopted in 1934. The City Manager acts as the chief administrative officer and is responsible to the City Council for the oversight and administration of all City affairs.

The Office provides strategic guidance to the City Council, supports the development and implementation of City policies and priorities, and oversees the preparation and administration of the City’s annual budget. The City Manager also appoints and directs department leadership to ensure alignment with Council goals and organizational objectives. With a focus on responsive governance and operational excellence, the City Manager’s Office provides overall organizational leadership to ensure the effective daily delivery of City services, programs, and projects.

Assignment Duration & Schedule

This internship is anticipated to take place during Summer 2026, with a flexible start date based on the selected candidate’s availability.


Schedule adjustments may be considered to accommodate departmental needs and the intern’s academic commitments.
