T his recruitment is to fill temporary, seasonal contingent positions for the following department at this time:

Department of Public Works - Business Services:

Under the direction of the Administrative Services Director or assigned supervisor, the Accounting Assistant plays a critical role in supporting the financial operations of the Department of Public Works. This journey-level position independently performs a broad range of accounting, payroll, accounts payable, revenue processing, and financial recordkeeping functions that ensure the accurate stewardship of public funds and the smooth delivery of essential County services.

The Accounting Assistant serves as a trusted member of the Business Services team, working collaboratively across divisions to process transactions, reconcile financial records, and maintain compliance with County policies and public sector financial standards. This role requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to balance and reconcile differences within recordkeeping systems while meeting critical deadlines.

Department of Finance - Property Tax Division:
Under the direction of the Accounting Unit Manager, the Accounting Assistant supports the daily operations of the Department of Finance Property Tax Division and performs a variety of para-professional accounting duties with a focus on the billing and collection of local property taxes. In addition, the Accounting Assistant supports the daily operations of the Department of Finance Treasury Deposit Desk and is primarily responsible for approving cash deposits and reconciling daily cash receipts. This position uses existing accounting and fiscal policies and procedures for preparing, reviewing and analyzing accounting records and reports. The position involves extensive customer service, cashiering and direct public contact daily. Experience in performing calculations and reconciliations and use of a variety of computer applications and knowledge of property tax or other billing/collection experience is desirable. Furthermore, the role includes managing the efficient processing of large volumes of incoming mail which entails ensuring timely and accurate sorting, categorization, and distribution to relevant departments within the department.

QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE OF
ABILITY TO
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES
Two years of accounting and/or financial office support experience that includes preparing, processing, and maintaining accounting documents and records. Education or professional training that is directly related to the work maybe substituted for up to one year of the required experience.
