OVERVIEWKitsap Recovery Center (KRC) is seeking a Substance Use Disorder Professional to serve in a vital clinical role supporting adults in withdrawal management, inpatient treatment, and outpatient services. This position may be filled as either a
Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) or a
Substance Use Disorder Professional Trainee (SUDPT), offering an outstanding opportunity for both experienced clinicians and emerging professionals ready to advance in the field.

You will provide individualized, evidence-based, culturally competent, and trauma-informed care in a mission-driven organization that utilizes the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) treatment criteria and serves approximately 2,000 adults annually. KRC’s work directly strengthens families and the broader community by expanding access to high-quality substance use disorder treatment.
For professionals entering as a
SUDPT, this is a structured training position designed to support your progression toward full SUDP certification. You will gain hands-on clinical experience in a highly supportive environment while building the competencies necessary for long-term career advancement in substance use disorder counseling.
As a SUDP, you will:
- Deliver individualized, evidence-based, trauma-informed treatment services, utilizing motivational interviewing, ASAM criteria, and diagnostic tools to conduct assessments, screenings, individual counseling, group therapy, psychoeducational presentations, and crisis intervention in both on-site and field settings. Work assignment may alternate between all KRC treatment modalities per the need.
- Coordinate holistic case management services addressing medical, dental, mental health, housing, and recovery support needs to ensure continuity of care.
- Maintain accurate, compliant clinical documentation in accordance with federal and state regulations, agency policies, and Washington Administrative Code requirements.
- Participate in clinical meetings, interdisciplinary case consultations, professional trainings, and structured clinical supervision.
- Monitor and Ensure patient safety and adherence to program guidelines, addressing behavioral concerns and maintaining a therapeutic environment.
- Cultivate collaborative partnerships with community providers and agencies while maintaining up-to-date referral resources.
- Conduct intake assessments, UA testing processes, treatment planning, discharge summaries, and outreach follow-up, including field-based or jail-based SUD assessments when clinically indicated.
SUDPT:
- Work closely under the supervision of an assigned trainer, engaging in structured training and receiving ongoing consultation to build clinical expertise in substance use disorder treatment.
- Receive guidance and support in applying professional judgment and counseling techniques, with limited independence until demonstrating the necessary competencies and knowledge in line with Washington State SUDP certification requirements.
- Complete the training program and work toward achieving certification as a Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP), with the potential for promotion upon successful program completion and Clinical Manager recommendation.
The pay range for SUDPT is $25.91 - $33.15
The pay range for SUDP is $29.67 - $37.96
What you bring:- Professional Credentials/Licensing: Registered in good standing with the Washington State Department of Health as an SUDP or SUDPT.
- Professional Experience:
- SUDPT: At least 300 hours of supervised hours providing assessments, counseling, and case management.
- SUDP: At least one year of case management experience in a substance abuse/chemical dependency, mental, or behavioral health environment.
- SUDPT Automatic Progressions: After 12 months employees who obtain Washington State Department of Health as Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP)license and consistently demonstrate required performance and competencies will be promoted to Substance Use Disorder Professional.
Failure to Progress: Employees who fail to obtain required certifications, licenses, or credentials, or who do not consistently demonstrate required performance and competencies, will not progress to the next classification. The department will take appropriate personnel action in accordance with county policies which may include reassignment, demotion, or separation from employment. - Specialized Expertise:
- Knowledge of chemical dependency disease processes and recovery principles.
- Experience delivering psychoeducational content and structured group facilitation.
- Ability to provide crisis intervention services when clinically indicated.
- Ability to manage a caseload and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Experience working with Individuals with both substance use and behavioral health needs who are engaged with specialty court programs.
- Communication Skills:
- Demonstrated cultural competence and commitment to trauma-informed care.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Ability to build effective partnerships with community providers and external agencies.
- Ability to navigate through legal and clinical intersections by collaborating with compliance teams, i.e., judges, peer support specialists, attorneys, and community partners.
- Additional Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with low-income and Medicaid-eligible populations.
- Experience conducting field-based assessments.
- Familiarity with UA testing administration and compliance coordination.

- Within 30 days of appointment, the successful candidate must:
- Complete Bloodborne/Airborne Pathogens training and receive Hepatitis B vaccine or sign a waiver

Vacation Leave New employees are credited with 48 hours of annual leave upon hire and will be begin accruing at the rate of 8 hours per month starting on their 7th month of employment. Employees may carry over 360 hours from one calendar year to the next. Annual leave accrual will increase upon tenure, as follows:
Upon completion of 2 years: 15 days per year (10.00 hours per month)
Upon completion of 5 years: 20 days per year (13.33 hours per month)
Upon completion of 10 years: 25 days per year (16.67 hours per month)
Sick LeaveAll new hires will be credited with 48 hours of sick leave upon hire and will begin accruing at the rate of 8 hours per month starting on their 7th month of employment. Employees may carry over 1200 hours from one calendar year to the next.
