The Sheriff's Department i s re cruiting for Deputy Public Administrator Trainees who learn to investigate and administer estates under the Public Administrator's jurisdiction. Incumbents work under established guidelines to gain the experience needed for advancement to Deputy Public Administrator. Essential duties include managing estates of deceased persons with emphasis on conserving the estate and physical maintenance of personal, real, and business property; confirming title and ownership of property and assets; searching for heirs, collecting benefits and insurance; and liquidating assets and distributing proceeds.

Deputy Public Administrator Trainees are eligible for automatic promotion to Deputy Public Administrator ( $73,694 - $101,254 annually ) upon meeting the minimum qualifications and receipt of satisfactory work progress report. Employees must qualify for promotion within eighteen (18) months of hire or be terminated.

Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

1) Background: Applicants must not have been convicted of a felony and must successfully pass an extensive background investigation, which includes a medical, drug, and fingerprint check, and a polygraph examination; and must be legally eligible to be in custody and control of a firearm as property.

2) Physical: Requires occasional physical agility including walking, standing, bending, squatting and lifting items that may weigh up to 60 pounds; possible exposure to substandard living and storage areas (insects, unpleasant odors, etc. while performing field work); and willingness to be called in crisis situations at irregular hours.
3) Certification/Continuing Education: Certification by the California State Association of Public Administrators, Public Guardians, and Public Conservators (CAPAPGPC) is required within four (4) years of appointment and continuing education courses are required to maintain certification.

4) Travel: A valid California Class C Driver License is required to carry out the essential job-related functions of this position. Proof of automobile liability insurance must be maintained. Use of a county vehicle and/or mileage reimbursement is available.
5) Promotion: Deputy Public Administrator Trainees must complete training within eighteen (18) months or be terminated. Upon meeting the training requirements and receiving satisfactory work progress reports, Deputy Public Administrator Trainees are eligible to promote to Deputy Public Administrator ( $ 73,694 - $101,254 a nnually).

6) Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet one of the following options:

Option A: Bachelor's degree in business or public administration, behavioral or social science, criminal justice, legal, accounting, or closely related field.

Option B: One (1) year of full-time work experience in a financial, legal, case management, law enforcement, real estate, or closely related setting processing accounting, legal, property, or law enforcement documents.

Option C: One (1) year of full-time work experience working in a Public Administrator or Public Guardian office.

Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in public or business administration, working knowledge of principles and techniques used in estate and financial investigations and management, including real property, and basic concepts involved in wills, probate, insurance policies, deeds and contracts.
