An island community rich in history and opportunity, Galveston is the ideal place to live, work and raise a family!Job DescriptionSUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Director of Communications/PIO, the incumbent will be responsible for various audiovisual projects, specifically aimed at creating, editing, and enhancing digital material for the City of Galveston’s municipal TV Channel 16. Ongoing duties will also include the development of social media content, monitoring the city’s webpage and updating as necessary, and monitoring public comments or inquiries on social media. Advanced audiovisual skills, including video and photography, will be essential to carrying out such requests and in fostering citizen awareness, employee engagement and maintaining professional relationships.
This position will work closely with the Director of Communications/PIO to meet the City’s communications goals and objectives. This creative position will showcase City of Galveston accomplishments, events, news, etc. through video as well as assist in graphic design, photography, website content, and social media management.
The right person for the position will be a strong video storyteller with the ability to multitask and work well under tight deadlines. The person should be detail-oriented, have an eye for graphic design, and the ability to assist with photography, social media content and management, website content and management, crisis communications, and other marketing/communications efforts. The person will have a strong knowledge of directing and producing video for public relations/marketing purposes. Hours will include occasional early mornings, late evenings, and weekends to cover events. The right person will be a proactive learner who works well independently and with a team.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Produce and edit videos highlighting events at the City of Galveston
- Assist in administering operation and maintenance of the City webpage and social media outlets.
- Create digital content to be shared on the City of Galveston’s municipal TV Channel 16, while ensuring the accuracy, appropriateness and timeliness of all information.
- Assist in the coordination of all public information for the City of Galveston, including public announcements and social media posts.
- Work closely with department heads and/or appointees to create audiovisual presentations for board, committee and/or council meetings.
- Develop a strong understanding of internal communications processes and how they can be leveraged digitally.
- Photograph and archive digital images for publications, websites and other online and print materials.
- Must be organized and results oriented.
- Perform related duties as required.
- Supports the relationship between the City of Galveston and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
- Employees may at any time be required to work in order to provide for the safety and well-being of the general public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services, in the event of an emergency.
- Will serve as the backup to the Director of Communications/PIO.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Knowledge:-- Video production and editing.
-- Strong knowledge and proficiency of Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effect.)
Adobe Audition and Adobe Photoshop.)
- Knowledge of best practices for use in video production for the web, including strong organizational skills.
- Ability to use DSLR cameras and related equipment.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to and work in a professional business environment.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines with a positive and professional attitude.
- Ability to work successfully as both a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision.
Skill in:- Video production and editing.
- Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects,
Adobe Audition and Adobe Photoshop.) - Experience with social media and website management.
- Time management.
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships within all levels within the City.
- Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:*A college degree from an accredited institution in Communications, Digital Media, or related field.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:High School diploma or equivalent; AND three years of experience in related work . LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION: May require possession of a valid Texas driver’s license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:- Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment. May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
