Description
Overview Under the direct supervision of the Kitchen Supervisor, the Kitchen Worker at the Nutrition and Education Service Center is responsible for scrubbing, washing and sanitizing large kitchen pots, pans, utensils and equipment. Packs and delivers food, mail, supplies to 4 senior centers and 4 nutrition sites using a City vehicle. Assist cooks with food preparation as needed and pulling food from storage. Unload and store cases of frozen, refrigerated and dry food and supplies in designated area. Clean and sanitize all surfaces and equipment in the kitchen facility in accordance with the local Health Department Rules and Regulations.
Responsibilities • Assist in packing home delivered meals. This includes packing individual portions as well as bulk containers of food in approved containers
• Able to read order form and accurately count to fill the order. Must be able to pack the correct number of products and at times fill ice chest with ice
• This position requires using a serving utensil to portion food into individual plates, also required placing Oliver trays on to the Oliver Packing System to seal the trays
• Pack and deliver meals to senior centers and nutrition sites. Will pack pans of prepared food into approved containers for transport to senior center and nutrition sites
• Must be able to read menu and center names on pans to ensure the correct amount of food gets to the correct center
• Must be able to load and unload hot pans and food from warmers and commercial ovens and ranges. As well as unload food into delivery van using food carts and mechanical lift
• Will also assemble and fill supply orders for senior centers and nutrition sites
• Required to deliver and pick up interoffice mail at City Hall, Senior Centers and Nutrition Sites daily
• Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing the inside of the delivery van
• Clean and sanitize pots, pans, cooking utensils and delivery equipment. Using proper methods and sanitizing solutions as approved by the local Health Department, remove all visible dirt and grease from equipment
• Required measuring and using sanitizing solution according to directions. Must be able to process equipment using the three-compartment method of sanitizing
• Required to store cleansed equipment and utensils in their proper place
• Must unload and store food and supplies in cases and bulk packs in designated areas. This includes dry storage, walk-in freezer and refrigerator
• Must lift and stack cases weighing up to 50lbs. Must be able to read labels on cases to store in proper location
• Assist cooks with food preparation as needed with basic food preparation. This may include cleaning items in a sink, peel vegetables with a peeler, pulling food out of storage, opening cans with electric and manual can opener, cutting food by hand with a chef's knife, slicing food on an electric slicer, and placing food into large pans and into walk in refrigerator for thawing
• Clean and sanitize kitchen, offices and restrooms
• Must be able to follow directions of supervisor to clean and sanitize all surfaces of the kitchen
• Must have near visual acuity to inspect areas for dirt and grease and be able to remove all visible soil
• Areas to clean will include sinks, worktables, large equipment (vent hoods, stoves, ovens, refrigerators, walk in freezer and refrigerator), walls, floors, doors, shelves, pallets, floor mats, drawers and cabinets
• Incumbent will also empty trash from SO-gallon containers and place it in a 4 cubic yard dumpster
• Must also remove empty cases and load them into dumpsters, as well as placing empty milk crates and bread trays in designated areas
• May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work • Non-Exempt - Full-Time
• Non- Rotating 40hr work week Monday - Friday 6:30am to 3:00pm
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

Qualifications • High School Diploma/GED
• Six (6) months to one (1) year experience.
Licenses and Certifications Required • Valid Texas Class C Driver's License
Required within Five (5) days of hire • Food Handler's Permit
Required within Sixty (60) days of Hire • First Aid Certified
• CPR Certified

Basis of Rating A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications and may request additional information. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.
