STARTING HOURLY PAY RANGE: $15.50 - $16.25 (based on experience)For more details, review the full job details and requirements below.The Livestock Handler Intern assists with the livestock program at the 1865 Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm. Responsibilities include performing daily farm chores, assisting staff with historic programming and events, and performing light administrative tasks to support operations.
Key Responsibilities- Assists in feeding, medicating, handling, cleaning, and caring for livestock.
- Assists with historic programming for school groups and special events; regularly wears provided 19th century clothing as part of the character and programming for the site.
- Performs light administrative tasks such as taking inventory, keeping animal training logs, and ordering feed.
- Uses various equipment or tools to complete work tasks, including use of a golf cart to efficiently access various parts of the work site location.
- Must be able to work indoors and outside in heat and cold.
QualificationsExperience: A minimum of one year of experience working around and with large animals is preferred. Must be sixteen years or older.
Education: This intern role is ideal for someone with interest in furthering their career or studies in animal studies, historic sites, or other related careers.
Licenses & Certifications: None required.
Environmental or Physical Demands: This job requires work around large animals who can at times be unpredictable. Work at the job site also involves navigating uneven terrain, climbing, stooping, and carrying materials related to the job. Exposure to dust and other environmental elements will also be required and work is done both indoor and outdoors, requiring exposure to heat and cold as well as other elements of weather.
